The Royal Marines Commando Force is a 6,500-strong, highly trained amphibious force within the UK’s Royal Navy. Their primary activities include expeditionary warfare, amphibious assaults, arctic and mountain operations, and supporting special operations worldwide.
HPO Technologies was commissioned to explore how software could support candidates on their journey to becoming a Royal Marine Commando. The aim was to boost emotional connection to the Royal Marines, improve physical preparation, guide readiness, and connect candidates from expression of interest through to selection. This has since evolved into a bespoke operating system that manages recruits from application through assessment and into training, delivering a seamless end-to-end solution.
Challenge
Assessment failures and high injury rates at basic training.
Solution + Implementation
HPO developed a bespoke performance system focused on candidate preparation. It enables physical readiness assessments, provides a direct communication channel with the force, and delivers authoritative guidance to strengthen resilience and reduce training injuries.

Impact
Improved candidate success, enhanced communication to candidates and alignment across MOD Recruiting and Royal Marine Commando Training Centre Lympstone.
